My learnings throughout the course have developed into being more open-minded and being able to have great information when assessing second language ELL students. I thought it would be an easier path for me since I have been through the same route that many of the second language students go through. Then, again not all students learn the same way as others. Throughout the course, great information was given to all of us that will be useful in the future. Through the readings from the book Foundations for Teaching English Language Learners by Wayne E. Wright, there were many misconceptions that I had that were proven wrong. Every chapter that I read made me realized that I was not aware of the important things I needed to know in order to be prepared to fulfill the student’s needs.              For Blog three I decided to interview a third-grade teacher, Mr. Belgrave. He is currently working as a Bilingual teacher at HISD. This is his first year teaching bilingual at a public school. Mr. Belgrave came to the United States to finish his career as in Education (EC-6) originally from, the Caribbean Island of Barbados. He had the opportunity to teach for a year in Columbia where he taught and practiced his Spanish while being there. Mr. Belgrave is now a fluent Spanish speaking and is able to communicate with his students and parents through their native language. This class consists of a 100% Hispanics students that are taught 60% in English and 40% in Spanish. Usually the content of reading, math is taught in English, but if needed to accommodate Mr. Belgrave allows the student to answer the problems, and write in Spanish.                                                          Watch my Second Blog-  Blog Entry #2 Hello everyone,  Welcome to my second blog entry, where I interview a close friend of mine Elizabeth who has experience learning English as her second language.  Both of Elizabeth parents are born in Mexico from two different places. Elizabeth gave us an explanation why Spanish was really her first language and even though her mother knew English, she still had her father that only understood Spanish.  That would make Elizabeth a simultaneous Bilingualism because she, “Had to speak Spanish to her father and English to her mother and older siblings” (Wright, 2015, P.5).  Elizabeth stated that the first time she really started to learn English was entering elementary school. Hello everyone! My name is Luz Alonzo, I am an EC-6 Generalist at the University of Houston. I am currently in my senior year of college. I have a passion for teaching and enjoy working with children building future leaders of America. I plan to give back to my community by providing elite education to the students with low income.
